Jake Holmes
There was a lot of experiences I had in the military that weren’t the greatest. Despite the fact that I’m doing all these things where I’m going back to school and making these moves, I was pretty unhappy and I was pretty angry. And, the times where I got relief from that were really the times I spent outdoors.
Jacob “Jake” Holmes loves the outdoors—and his life and work reflect that passion. His interest in outdoor recreation and Earth Sciences began in early childhood growing up in rural Maine; his family lived off the land, often with no power or running water. As a result, Jake developed a strong connection with nature. He’s a mountain guide at Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School and a member of the Polar Geophysics Research Team at the University of Maine’s Climate Change Institute. Jake’s also a veteran and a dad.
